Ok, this is one that has probably been beat to death, but humor me....

I was going to purchase one of the Canon Elph S100 digital cameras to take
on my section hike, but, after reading about battery life in the cold, I
have decided on getting a decent 35mm to take.  I am looking, obviously, for
something very light, with a small built in telephoto - something in the
35 - 70 range, cheap, and fairly rugged.

Suggestions?
