The coast of Maine is a series of peninsulas. Rachel Carson summered two
peninsulas to the north of me. I met her casually a couple of times. Her book,
"Under the Sea Wind" is essentially a nature study of midcoast Maine. Silent
Spring is what people remember her for, but her other books contain the best
nature writing of the past century. She was a scientist with a remarkable
ability to describe natural events.
