You've pretty much covered why many of us don't want your dogs on the trail.
I'd much rather you carried the gun.  You'd feel protected and I'd not be
bothered by your mutts every time you walk by, or tented in the area I hoped
to share, or stop at lunch near us.  How is it that these dogs can tell a
puddle from a spring?  We hikers often have trouble with that one.
