[at-l] sewing your own pack

If you go to Wal-Mart or similar store, for $6 you can pick up a nylon
mesh laundry bag, reinforce the points-of-attachment with cordura
mounted grommets, and mount it on an external frame. I sprayed mine with
silicone to shed moisture, and just keep it covered with a trash bag to
shed rain. It is kind of stretchy, so it doesn't like to carry much
weight, but lashing the thermorest underneath helps support it. It
should be easy enough to build an internal by just attaching shoulder
straps directly to the bag, with a cut-down foam pad to provide shape
and back protection.
