[at-l] Gaiters

Lets say you don't have separate nylon rain pants and are hiking for the 4th
straight day of rain and DEEP mud in the Smokies. You arrive at the shelter
in the evenings w/ a mud slick up the back & insides of your legs / hiking
pants that goes from the bottom hem *solid & thick* up to the knee w/
splatters higher. who'd a thunk that hiking would kick up so much mud
behind you... ( nylon style rain pants would shed the mud if you stood in
the rain long enough getting water! )

I had deep gaitor envy of those folks who could peel off the gaitors & get
under their bag to change in to dry clothes w/o getting mud *all* over
everything - including the down bag, the sleeping platform etc. I had my
gaitors sent to Hot Springs when I called in from Mt. Mommas.

Cheerio
