[at-l] re: tract homes

Kelly -

I AM a native Floridian (Central Florida), and you are just echoing our
rants.... quit draining our swamps, quit sucking up all the water in the
aquifer, quit building your sterile housing plats, and leave our damn gators
alone!!

Um... sorry.... got carried away...appreciated your post, though...

I am soooo sick of these damn homes. They are EVERYWHERE in South Florida.
Old Building? Tear it down and build 800 identical homes surrounding a man
made lake that you can't swim in, fish in, or canoe in and with a community
pool that's only open between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Thursdays. It's the
freaking Disney Land of residential real-estate. And God help anyone who
wants to plant their own garden. Every single solitary home looks exactly
like the one next to it, with no variation in size, shape or color. And the
same goes for the yard. Impatiens in the winter and something hardier in
the
summer, it's all so depressing. Oh, and forget feeding birds. A friend
lives in one such "community" where everything is voted upon. Two swans
decided to make the man-made lake their home, and the association voted on
spending hundreds of dollars on their removal, for the love God. It's
almost
like anything natural is completely foreign and must be avoided at all
costs.

As I was passing though one of these neighborhoods, I was asked by a friend
if I would like to live there, it being all manicured and water fountained
and glossy... HELL NO! I'm not a stepford wife and never was a fan of
Disney
World. I'd rather live in a 1956 metal trailer with a car on blocks in the
front yard. At least I could paint the trailer purple and grow flowers in
the car if I got the urge.

These are the same damned communities that are springing up all over the
place, clogging the Everglades... And people wonder why their kids are
getting eaten by alligators.. BECAUSE YOU LIVE IN A SWAMP, MORON!

Ok, I'll shut up. I'm not a native Floridian, so I guess I'm as much to
blame as anyone. Sorry about the rant.

Kelly
