And let us not forget that one of the more memorable 
environmental disasters of our age -- the Exxon Valdez 
"mishap" in Alaska -- was intimately connected with the 
simple movement and transportation of oil.  Since 
then, similar stories (albeit on a smaller scale) have 
become commonplace.
