***   Yes. After I finished my through-hike it took several weeks for the 
feeling to come back to my longest toes. On my hike I occasionally 
experienced a burning pain shooting in my big toe that resembled being 
skewered by a burning nail. It goes away after returning to normal life. I'd 
avoid the surgery for a few months to make sure it's necessary...
