[at-l] Maps, Handbook, Companion, Data Book, Water

Maps: They are great fun to review, especially the profiles, and great help
if there is an accident to get out by a direct route, or to identify the
town noise you heard at night. They added to our enjoyment of the trip.
Wing Foot's Handbook: Someone gave us an old edition at Neels Gap. It added
greatly to our trip. It's a great book. All the stuff I need to know was
in the Handbook, such as the kinds of mice in the forest, or the kinds of
flowers you would soon encounter, many tidbits of information that very much
added to our enjoyment. The one we ordered arrived at our Florida home when
we were in Connecticut, so don't count on a new edition. It includes
mileage that is not in the Companion. WF is opinionated, but that's easy to
weed out of this otherwise great book. We would have missed a lot if we
didn't have this along. Somewhat outdated in phone numbers. But the best
for trail descriptions and town maps. However, forget the listed prices for
services.
ALDHA Companion: The best and most up to date for useful information on
shuttles, rooms, and town information. We could rely on this for accurate
information. However, forget the listed prices for services.
Data Book: Essential for daily planning.
Water purification: I'll get back to you on this issue with the references.
160 degrees will sterilize your water but currently can't find my references
that I know this list will require.
