[at-l] Fw: RE: Denatured alcohol container

I don't think this is common knowledge *but* I'm not too sure if I believe
what the guy said. I find it difficult to believe that denatured alcohol
(methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, and ketone) is going to damage aluminum
bottles in any way, shape, or form. I've been storing denatured alcohol in
fuel bottles for years with no sign of damage or wear - not even to the
rubber seal or plastic cap.

Did he mention what *kind* of damage or how long it would take?

Charles

Lamar-
None of our fuel bottles are designed for alcohol, gas/fuel only. It will
actually damage the aluminum fuel bottles if you carry alcohol in them.
Also, we only make them in red.
You may want to contact Liberty Mountain Sports, they are the distributor
for Trangia's line of alcohol stoves. They should have fuel bottles that
are
appropriate for alcohol. Their website is:
http://www.libertymountain.com/ .
I did not see the Trangia product on the website, so you may need to call
Liberty mountain.

Good luck-

Dear Sir: I own several of your MSR fuel bottles designed for carrying
white gas (Coleman fuel) and use in conjunction with the MSR Whisperlite
stove. Recently, I have needed a similar container for carrying denatured
alcohol to be used as fuel in an alcohol stove.

Are your fuel bottle designed for carrying white gas also acceptable for
carrying denatured alcohol? Do you offer an aluminum fuel bottle that is
a color other than red? I am concerned that I might confuse one fuel for
another if I store them in identical containers.
