[at-l] Sticky fingers....

along the same lines - I was told once to put paper clips thru my zippers on
checked luggage & other items. Those who are trying to steal are looking
for the quick in & out and often aren't even going to want to spend the time
to undo a paperclip wound thru the zipper - unless of course the bag is
expensive looking. Before I did this, I had occasionally lost items. Once
I started this I never lost anything - including stuff in my daypack while
being a tourist. Now i'm wondering how much it would help at T-days on my
tent!

 I also
carry a small lock with which to secure the zipper on my tent - obviously
you
can cut through the tent, but mostly, as you note, the crimes are generally
those of opportunity. Allows you to pitch tent, stick pack inside, lock it
up and go grab water.
