That's the effect from a town of 1500 people getting
10,000 visitors invading over the course of a few
days. The police focus on being peace officers and not
detectives because they're swamped with the numbers of
visitors. Plus...it's not the town's residents being
affected.

Until there's an effort made to actually create a
deterrent to the thieves, the petty theft situation is
going to get worse in Damascus during Trail Days, not
better.

The temporary solution is to just make sure valuables
are locked out of sight inside a vehicle while in town
or locked inside a hotel room over on the Interstate.
