1) Erosion is caused by rain, not traffic. Traffic will speed
erosion, but a trail cut to channel water will erode regardless.
2) Were "today's traffic" high, then forest officials, hidebound
to numbers and benefit/cost ratios to a fault, would have the
justification to do more trail maintenance with more trail
maintenance dollars.
REALITY:

In the NPS and the USFS, the $queaky wheel$ get the gree$e.
