the Appalachian Trail.

I hike because it is safer than commuting to the office or being at the
office most days. I've only run across one hiker (on the MD section) that
was a little disturbing - we said "hi", he started ranting and raving about
police and bench warrants and was carrying a pack that looked like he beat
it out of town without a lot of forethought on packing light. But we simply
walked on rapidly and left him in the dust.
Only value I see in guns for hikers on the trail is to shoot back at the
humters we discussed a while back (during season of course). But then again,
I've never run across a bear on any trail.
