[at-l] thru-hiking with a dog

Ya, don't do it. I have just finished reading my 6th book in a month
preparing for my hike in 2003. Everyone said hiking with your dog is a
really really bad idea. First is consider the other hikers, then consider
the wilderness, most important the dog. As two different vet said in books.
Dogs are not made to do the trail. One vet remembered helping a dog on the
trail and his paws looked like raw mashed hamburger. The problem is dogs are
too loyal and not smart enough to quit or let their owners know of problem.
I know how you feel, I'm leaving two pets home for 6months it very hard and
at times I think of hanging up my dream because I feel terrible leaving
them. But the cruelty you will be doing to your dog is very unfair and
selfish.
