Nice things about shelters...

No wet tent to pack in the morning.

Arrival to in bag time kept to a minimum - and in bag time to out on the
trail also kept to a minimum in the morning.

Mouse bagging goes faster than bear bagging.

Even the most wildly sloping shelter is nowhere near as bad as some of the
worst campsites I've had to put up with.

Plus, when you're hiking the Appalachian National "Social" Trail, it can be
nice to sit around with friends for a while before turning in. While there
are some great "group" campsites, most places where you camp just don't have
a great way to share time together.

That'a ll for now... While I certainly see both benefits and drawbacks to
shelters and tenting, there does seem to be both a time and place for each.
