OK, I can't resist any longer. The first time I hiked through Erwin
('71), we were refused service at the first two stores we stopped in.
Then on the way out of town some of the local "good ol' boys" road up and
down the road throwing bottles at us. Guess they'd never seen men with
hair half way down their backs. We were rescued by a local couple who had
been to the big city :-)
