BTW,  I would have been quite happy to take this thing off the list about 10:00 am this morning but the people for whom television is a significant part of their identity keep attacking my opinions in public, rather nastily I thought, without a single coherent, rational reason for why television is a good thing and why we should all be watching more of it. Only two people have been able to tell me why they liked television.  One was so badly reasoned I didn't respond to it, the other one wrote to me in private and I found her reasons to be perfectly sound, for her.
