The name of the station is Harlem Valley-Wingdale. It used to be
called "State Hospital," after the mental institution located across the road
(which, by the way, is now closed, I think).

The closest Metro-North Hudson Line stop to Bear Mountain is Manitou,
but trains stop there primarily on weekends. (There is actually one inbound
train that stops there at about 8:00 a.m. every morning, apparently for the
convenience of the handful of people who live on Manitou Station Road. The
station is located in an isolated area and hardly any parking is available.)
But for those who want to begin a hike near Bear Mountain, there is another
alternative. Metro-North provides hourly service to the Garrison station,
about three miles north of Manitou. To reach that station, you take the AT
to the junction with the blue-blazed Osborne Loop Trail, which is a short
distance east of the AT crossing of Route 9, then take that trail to the
Sugarloaf Trail, which leads down to Route 9D. From there, it's just over a
mile along the road to the Garrison station.
