[at-l] No TV/VCR

Well I'm sure glad I'm not the only one who still watches TV!

We have 2 TVs, one VCR and a Combo unit in the studio.
Mike loves TV and movies, so if he's home, it's probably on. We like
a lot of the cable stuff but we really don't watch much network
fare and we don't subscribe to pay channels.

Combining this thread with the what do you store thread (sort of),
after 9/11, Mike and i watched an interview with a couple who
lived very near ground hero. The told of how they dithered, about
what to take and whether to go. Then the buildings fell and it
was too late. They were stuck there with their newborn, in all
that horrible dust.

About that time, there were alerts at TMI and we talked about what
we would do if something awful happened there. Last time we
didn't leave but some of our friends did. It set us to thinking about
how that family dithered through their chance to get away and we
decided to inventory and plan what we would take if we needed
to go. It was eye opening.

We assembled all the paperwork you are told to keep handy.
Consolidated and found pictures and videos and letters. We
went through our clothes and filled old suitcases with stuff that was
still fine but not currently favored. We organized the car camping
gear and pitched our big tent to make sure it was still sound.
We bought another cat carrier and plastic tubs to transport Mike's
Studio stuff which, believe it or not, is the most expensive stuff we
own.LOL Then we took it all and put it in the van to make sure it
would fit....tight squeeze with four dogs and four cats but we need
the other car for family.
It meant a LOT of hard choices. Most people don't want to walk away
from their things forever. I'd miss my books and Mike would miss his
videos but it was good to make these choices in the calm of safety
rather than waste valuable time when danger is on it's way.
We figure all we'd need to do is dump our underwear and pillows into
a tub to cushion two pieces of my Gram's crystal and a couple other
things and in a half hour we are outta here....without a TV <g> but
with a heck of a lot more than the clothes on our backs.
