     *** Exactly. Hiking involves carrying weight and discomfort. Don't go 
overboard and be penny wise pound foolish on cooking times for the sake of a 
few ounces...

     *** Alternative: I took to buying the five minute brand for the extra 
grits in it. I cooked it for 3.5 minutes and was quite satisfied. (In others 
words, maybe the 20 minute tough stuff isn't the best choice)

     ***   All you really need is a light single blade knife and a thumb can 
opener (EP-3 or whatever it's called). Buy the Zip if you can bear smoke and 
tending. Bring a white gas stove if you just want to get cooking inside the 
shelter quickly upon arriving in the rain.
