I never have had "real" oatmeal but this reminded me of a thing Paul Harvey 
did a few years ago on "And now you know the rest of the story".

I don't recall many details but there was a man who invented this food for 
the masses.  Nutritious, tasty and affordable for all, even the poor.  At 
the time many thought he should be hanged for suggesting people eat horse 
food.
