[at-l] Favorite Knife ?
You've come across my weakness. I have a large knife collection. And
I love multitools. I'll only list the ones that I've seen on the trail,
since otherwise I'd be here all day. Only gonna list the blades of interest
to hikers (no screwdrivers, corkscrews, etc.)
Leatherman Wave: This is a great, heavy duty tool, and with the new
rounded edges, you can really put some pressure on the pliers. However,
It is massive overkill for hiking, and at a whopping 8+oz, it is also
too heavy! However, has 1 serious smoothblade, large Saw, serrated blade,
and a smooth/rough file that all lock in place. A serious can opener and
good scissors.
Leatherman PST II: The traditional leatherman tool you see everywhere.
Pliers that bite the hand if used for anything resembling torque, big
blade, scissors, file, can opener, ruler on outside. Weight 5.2oz
Leatherman Micro: Similar to a regular leathman tool, however where the
pliers would be, instead you have a nice spring actuated scissors. Also
has penknife blade, bottle/can opener, tweezers, file, and lanyard ring.
The back of the micra acts as a ruler too. (think maps!) Weight is about
2oz.
Swisstech Multitool: If you like the Micra, but want pliers, you could
toss this in for only another 2 oz. Works as good pot holder.
Buck Knives Minibuck Tool: The pliers where you'd normally see them on
a leatherman. Penknife blade, Small File, Tweezers (too tough to pinch
shut, imho) vy. small scissors, and a something that they pretend opens
bottles. Weight 2oz.
Swiss Army (Climber): Large Blade (non locking), penknife blade,
reamer/punch, real can opener, real bottle opener. Pullout tweezers and
toothpick. Good scissors. Weight 4oz.
(warning, this last one is my personal favourite)
Leatherman Juice S2: Real Leatherman style pliers, Excellent Scissors,
bottle/can opener, Lanyard Ring, and full size blade. This is built better
than the regular leathermans (does not require additional tools just to get
the tools open!) Only 4.3oz! Shiny Orange handles for easy spotting when
dropped by doofuses like me.
