In 2.5 weeks, there will be some sort of GA RUCK at Amicolola Falls
State Park, MLK weekend Fri 18 thru Sun 20. There appears to be rooms
and cabins available. Currently, I have a lodge room reserved although
I have plans to stay in a cabin to help breakfast plans and meeting
space. If there is shortage of space, my lodge room will be available.
Campsites, RV spots, primitive camping and a shelter (I didn't know
about that one) are also available. Of course, all costs are the
participants' responsibility including park fees.
No one has specifically reserved a pavillion/picnic space or a Lodge
meeting room. I anticipate informal spaces will occur as last year, as
well as semi-formal around the lodge lobby and such. I plan to bring a
blue tarp canopy to set up on the lawn area atop the falls, just in
case. If someone has a chiminea available, that can be real helpful to
stay warm. I plan to bring two packs to be Tuckered - Winter and warm
weather - as well as to discuss my thoughts of first aid kits.
Hopefully, folks planning hikes will bring much more useful material
for Tuckerization.
I'd encourage folks to bring lounge chairs, sit-upons, Frisbies,
hackysacks, and maybe hiking gear. I hope the Sunday Sunrise Piano
Marching Band is as successful as past tradition predicts. :)
We will be at the start of the approach trail to Springer mountain and
the AT. There are many hiking opportunities in the immediate area.
Hikers and their families will also find much more valuable
opportunities to share dreams and experience, as well as cooking skills
for those planning on the blueberry pancake and breakfast binge.
Like a hike, the GA RUCK has a goal of being fun and not a college
course or marketing scam. Music, frivolity, tall tales, rumors and
other activities are anticipated to occur as a result of spontaneous
combustion. Long distance operators will not be standing by. Criticism
(constructive and otherwise) is invited as means to find someone who
knows how to put a more successful RUCK together, regardless of venue.
Stop me, before I screw it up again!
Bill...
