(right on the Trail) where famous dignitaries eat just
north of Dahlgren Campground in Maryland (famous
portrait photos on the wall of some of the famous
people). Nice place, doesn't mind thru-hikers coming
in. Be nice...stop scratching yourself for a
moment...little pinkies up while your in there.>>


Thanks for stirring up some happy memories Datto!

A few of us wandered down to the South Mountain Inn for desert after having
dinner at Dahlgren. We expected to be discreetly fed on the patio mentioned
in the guide, and were shocked to be seated exactly in the middle of the
dining room. Women in dresses and men in jackets and ties, and five scurvy
thru-hikers...
The server arrives and we explain (apologetically) that we're only there
for desert, and she proceeds to list the various home made pies and ice
cream available, and then.... (pregnant pause)
"Our special for tonight is a strawberry chemise"
"What's that?"
"Home made strawberry ice cream, and fresh strawberries, rapped in a warm
crepe, and covered with a chocolate sauce and home made whipped cream"....
Five pairs of VERY LARGE thru-hiker eyes....
Dang that was good <g>
