[at-l] Driving Tent Stakes

Most of my backpacking experience is fairly far behind me. The last ten years have been mostly car camping with young kids. Now we are hitting the trails more and I am doing a little backpacking and planning more. One item I realized was really useful when car camping was a small sledge hammer. That sucker will drive tent stakes into rocky ground. If the stakes were strong enough it could probably drive them into solid rock. Well I may not know a lot but I know enough not to pack and carry a sledge hammer. From scouting in the 70's I remember carrying a hand axe which we also used to drive tent stakes. I can also remember using a rock to hammer in stakes.

So my question is how are hikers, especially weight conscious ones, now driving in their stakes?
