1) There are only a single *set* of guidebooks for the AT,
published by the ATC for the various clubs that put them
together. But I don't think that's your question.....

2) Most people on a throughhike carry the appropriate
ATC-published map for that region, pages from a recent "Data
Book" showing the what's/when's of stuff coming up, and either
the appropriate pages from a recent ALDHA Companion or
Wingfoot's Throughhikers' Guide. Of the last two, the difference
is in physical format and in layout/content. Get both and
choose.
