Plan simple, one pot, but tasty meals. Keep the mileage low (six miles a day?).
Take a lot of breaks at every pretty overlook or waterfall. Know absolutely how
to put up the shelter you carry. Make sure everyone has good cold weather and
rain gear. Fight to keep their packs, light weight, but adequate for the season.

Choose an easy, but pretty trail.
