The fiberglass helps wick the alcohol, or at least keep it from
sloshing out. After using and making a few of these stoves, I think the
fiberglass or permiculite stuff is unnecessary.

BTW, just how ugly and effective are your stoves? Sounds like a bad
date back in college.
