Roland Mueser's book....He does conclude that it is relatively rare by any 
normal world comparison and that it is neither advisable or useful to carry 
a gun.

Mr. Muesser is an accomplished long distance hiker.  He can write a book on 
hiking but apparently has no qualifications to comment on the advisability 
of carrying a gun anywhere.  FBI statistics prove otherwise.  Too bad we 
can't run the questions of advisability and usefulnes to those who never had 
the opportunity to walk off the trail.
