[at-l] hiking sticks/staffs/poles, etc. Are they worth it?

The only states where I found Leki poles useful were:

Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West
Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New
York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New
Hampshire and Maine. Other than that, they were just
dead weight.

PS: My knees had recouped back to 90% by March 2001.
Today? Good as new. Hey! If you don't like the idea of
using Leki poles, I work at a place that builds
titanium knee joints. I can get you a deal at the end
of your thru-hike -- it's like having a cousin in the
business!
