[at-l] Winter water tips (was Hydration systems?)
Good points. When I was responding (before I read Stitches' reply) I was
focusing on three season hiking.
One additional trick I use in winter -- I put a couple cups of water in my
pan and leave it with the lid on after dinner -- unless there is good fresh
snow around to melt, in which case I leave a pan of snow.
That way in the morning I have ice/snow ready to melt w/o getting out of the
bag -- as I don't use water bottles as hot water bottles, except in
emergencies.
The first hot water is used to thaw out the water in my bottles -- which
were left about 3/4 full, w/ about 1/4 air. Once I am sure I have water,
not ice, I can make hot cereal and drink.
