Unfortunately, TJ is at least partially correct. Among the complaints of the
rangers were reports of thru hikers skinny-dipping in the waterfalls,
"celebrating" on the shores of Daicey Pond, and drying their smelly tee shirts
in the camp library.

The closing of the Daicey Pond thru hiker sites is probably a good thing. Daicey
Pond campers are a distinct breed from those at Katahdin Stream, where the new
thru hiker leantos will be. Daicey pond folks think wildness is sleeping on a
comfortable bed in a log cabin on a pond shore. Those who choose Katahdin Stream
as a campsite are there to climb the most rugged mountain in the east. They know
all about sweat and the importance of drying tee shirts.

Some have even been known to shower in the waterfalls -- though most of them
wear pants while doing so.
