[at-l] Revised Homemade Esbit Stove

After reading this I realized I may have missed some info.
Just thought I'd share what I did for an Esbit stove and it supports at =
least 24 oz of water and pan. Please maximize your window (the middle =
button on the upper right) of the window.
This is my plan:
One empty sterno fuel can. Cut five well spaced 1/2" x 1/2" tabs along =
the sides 1/4" from the bottom as shown below (cut only top and two =
vertical sides, no horizontal bottom cut) Use a sharp knife or box =
cutter.
Later you will bend these tabs inward to act as a support and also as =
air
intake.

                 wire mesh> xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
inlets/support tabs > [_] [_] [_]
           bottom of can> =
=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D
Cut a circular piece of (1/16" interstices) hardware cloth (screen wire) =
1/4" wider diameter than the diameter of the can, for added strength, =
fold
in and crimp the edges under tightly to the size of the inside of the =
can.

Now you have a wire nest on which to sit the fuel tab.=20
Carefully insert it into the can and bend the afore made tabs up to hold =
it in place.

Now go to the top just under the sturdy rim and cut five 3/16" slots =
each about 1 1/4" long around the can. The flames extend out these =
holes so keep them close to the top but do not take out too much in =
between slots or the can will not be sturdy.

You can store a few Tabs inside & put the Sterno lid back on. I tried =
it and it will be the back up if the Esbit stove fails to provide =
sufficient heat because I can put some wood inside if needed.

Because of added air intake the fuel tabs burn twice as fast but also =
hotter. I may adjust the intakes smaller to slow down heating. =
Regardless of what they say, these fuel tabs stink when burned so DO NOT =
use them inside your tent as I read in the packaging was allowed.=20

For a windscreen--I got some of the building insulation made of aluminum =
on both sides with white 1/4" foam inside. But first I melted the foam =
in a 450* oven for 5+ min. the shrunken foam stays in between the =
aluminum so there is no mess. It then folds very small.

Have a Happy Hiking Day,
SLIM aka Nancy

I pray for strength and fortitude to climb the rock-strewn road.
Give me such courage, I can scale the heartiest peaks alone,=20
And transform every stumbling block into a stepping stone."=20
