[at-l] giardia and others



You might go to the BackpackingGearTest Yahoo Group and read up on some 
reviews of those and other water treatments. I have also used the Pur 
Hiker. If you consider the amount of water it will treat, the cost and the 
weight, it isn't really that bad a choice for an ultralight gear list. You 
will still want to carry some sort of backup plan. I use Polar Pure for my 
backup to SWA inline filters, as it is a dandy substitute for Betadine in 
my first aid kit. If I ever get to do a thru hike, I will replace the SWA 2 
or 3 times for the same amount one Hiker refill would have treated, at 2 to 
3 times the cost.

Do what is familiar and comfortable for you.
