[at-l] OT: Military / Political / Social Developments

I'm guessing that these "reliable sources" of the Frontier Post, http://frontierpost.com.pk/main.asp?id=2&date1=10/2/2001, belong to sources in the Pakistani military who may have disclosed here some of what the US talked about with the Pakistan military . . . I'm also guessing that some of it is disinformation designed to heighten an Islamic response against the US led effort on terrorism . . . but it's an interesting article in either case . . .

ISLAMABAD : As the Taliban forces bracing up for a long war, the United States-led allies forces have planned to carry out a massive military attack on at least five Muslim countries situated in South Asia, Middle East and Persian Gulf.

Credible sources told The Frontier Post on Monday that the US-led allies attacks are planned on Iraq, Libya, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan" if the political situation in Afghanistan does not changes.

Sources said that the massive military build up by the American forces along with the British Army and other allied forces was part and parcel of a long drawn policy to "eliminate alleged terrorism roots in these countries".

"Pakistan`s nuclear installations and other sensitive military entities are under direct threat of these attack," the sources said.

Sources added, "any political change in Afghanistan would certainly not mean elimination of Taliban forces there and that these forces could rally around under the leadership of Engineer Gul Badin Hikmatyar or who is likely to play a key role in future scenario of Afghanistan".

Toppling of Taliban leadership in Afghanistan may prove to be less loss for Pakistan as the Musharraf had stated in his address to the nation as compare to what he had enumerated in terms of national security interests", the sources added.

On the other hand the US and British intelligence and reconnaissance personnel presently based in Afghanistan have so far failed to gather enough information to point out exact and accurate positions of hideouts of Osama bin Ladin and his Al-Qaida members for any aerial attack.

Sources have said that these special units have also not succeeded to "jam the communication system" that the Osama Bin Ladin is employing to communicate with his aides.
