Arggh! Seems like any car mishaps ONLY happen when a
hike is involved in one way or another. In the past
few years, have had a transmission give out on me, a
blown headgasket (remember jeep means Just Empty Every
Pocket ;-D ) and a timing belt go out (ironically, the
weekend before I was scheduled to change it) all on
the weekend of a hiking trip (and usually after a
trip..talk about good timing) So cars have not been
good to me when a trip is involved.

To save money for next year, I am sans auto now. So I
thought my car troubles would be over. But wait,
apparently the bad carma (groan...) extends to other
people who go on trips with me.  I bring my gear to
work Friday. All set to go. Until late Friday morning
my phone rings... My friend calls me up to say that
her car won't start....So no reports of yellow aspens,
or snow capped mountains this Monday.

Supposed to go away this weekend with a different
friend...we'll see what car problems crop up next...

In the mean time, life can't be too bad. Was able to
hike an 8500 foot peak that is considered a city park.
Fifteen minutes by bike to the trail head from my
house. Could be worse.. :)
