For a good alternative to plain dehydrated apples, try the following:
1/3 cup cinnamon imperials ("red hots")
3 C water
Apples
Dissolve the cinnamon imperials in hot water. Peel, core, and thinly
slice the apples. Soak the apples in the solution for 5-10 minutes.
Dehydrate. Hide from the kids or you won't have any for the trail.
I don't have many recipes that are trail related that are worth sharing,
but you can find the one above and ones I have for Spicy Beef Jerky,
Hamburger "gravel", Don & June's Chewy Fruit Cookies, and Logan Bread,
as well as two other recipes for Buncha' Bran Muffins, and Bacardi Rum
Cake at my website at the following URL:
