[at-l] New Lister Bio

Name: Stephen C. Gay

email: sgay@ellijay.com

Trail Name: Old friends call me "Oso", but have outgrown it. I hope to get a new one with my wife on the AT.

Home: Talking Rock, GA; Front Porch faces Mt. Oglethorpe.

Age: 26

Married: Yes, my wife and I have done overnighters and short 3 day hikes but that's about it for us as a couple. She has far more concerns regarding through-hiking the AT than I do. We love to hike together.

Children: NO, that will be after the AT hopefully

Occupation: Systems Engineer, Political Science Major / Russian Studies minor

Hobbies: Hiking, Studying, Contributing to Political Science Journals, WORKING

Last 2 books read: "The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers" Paul Kennedy, "Chechnya: Tombstone of Russian Power" Antol Lieven

First time on the AT: Parents never hiked. Completed short 3-days with friends and wife. That's about it.

Favorite hard beverage: Hard Cider, JD, RUSSIAN Vodka

Portions of AT covered: Parts of GA, TN, NC

AT Concerns: I would really love to do the entire AT in one setting, but will have to be between my current job and my next job. Will also have to have 6 months of mortgage and bill payments saved up, not including the coast of the AT. On top of this my Wife's schedule will have to match mine for us to do it as a team. Need to get my Masters before I start also. Realistically, I'm looking at about 4 years from now. I need to start now learning as much as possible and hiking more. I appreciate any help anyone can provide and would like to thank everyone in advance for having patience with us.
