QUETTA: The US troops participating in a strike against Afghanistan will =
take over Shamsi airport near Kharan for operational purposes, reports =
national English daily Dawn on Sunday.=20


The airport is not used by the commercial domestic or international =
flights. Practically it is under the management of United Arab Emirates =
to facilitate royal family members of UAE to enjoy hunting trips in =
Balochistan.=20


Besides the airport the UAE royals have a huge residential complex for =
their employees. Some of them are stationed there permanently while the =
others are moved in seasonally. The facility also includes a huge =
garage, fuel and ration reservoirs.=20


Meanwhile, some US officials arrived Quetta on Saturday afternoon to =
have talks with local military counterparts. It is widely believed that =
the logistics to support US military operation in Afghanistan was also =
an issue during their meetings with military high ups based in =
Balochistan.=20


It is also learned that US officers attending courses at Command and =
Staff College Quetta, a reputed military training institution in the =
world, are being evacuated for security reasons.=20
