[at-l] a novice's questions

Melissa,

Most of the AT can be hiked year-round if you are
prepared for weather extremes. I had a friend that
practiced snow-shoeing for his Feb AT northbound start
in '99 to get him through the Smokies. If you like
cold weather and are adequately prepared for possible
intermittent ice, snow and freezing temps, then a Feb
start is fine. I had all three of these in March when
I started, but it didn't last long.

As for AT web sites, I have an older list I'll paste
it below -- some of this may be outdated. I recommend
joining the Appalachian Trail Conference and reading
as many AT journals and books as possible.
