To the new listers. This was what is commonly known as a Troll attack.
The angry verbage is designed, sometimes cleverly, to elicit an less
clever and equally angry response. The design of such attack is to 
fragment and inflame the list. 

The best response is the response it so richly deserves. Eyes roll,
jaws drop, and a silent mornful moan over the possibility that a fellow
hiker has such bile in his throat.

Let it go. Nothing to see here. Nothing really AT (much less reality)
oriented.
