just today subscribed to the list and have enjoyed reading postings from some 
of you. i am in north carolina and will be taking my son on a 2 night hike on 
the s.w. virginia section of the A.T., our first experience. we will be going 
along with another dad and his two sons. we have camped and hiked quite a bit 
and have only one other backpacking trip under our belts. anybody have 
experience with the area around mt. rogers? would appreciate any info. i 
don't have any problem with wanting somebody to talk me out of thru-hiking 
the whole trail. it is a dream to someday do it. would be nice to have the 
freedom to do it. loved hearing about the snow...we had 80+ degree weather 
and went swimming today.
