     SANDY HOOK **   Two state lawmakers say they oppose a plan to erect a 
gigantic billboard on US 340 near Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and the Appalachian 
Trail. 
     Delegate Christopher Shank and Sen. Donald Munson said the six hundred 
seventy-two foot sign would be inappropriate in that location because of its 
impact on the landscape. Both legislators represent Washington County. 
      Eller media of Laurel has requested variances from the Washington 
County Board of Zoning Appeals. The sign would be 5 feet taller and 85 feet 
closer to an intersection than zoning restrictions allow.
