This post is a totally uncalled for personal attack.

You are way off base with this. If read her pots you'd know she was an
aspiring thru-hiker (AT-L welcomes aspirants or I wouldn't be here either)
and she has backpacked (like most of us probably not as much as she'd like).

Not true!

Again, a rude and totally pointless personal attack. As I read this post
Red was not suggesting anyone leave the list but merely wondering out loud
at the anger and arrogance that a few display periodically toward the rest
of us and the fact that they stay despite their seeming be to antagonistic
toward the culture that AT-L community embodies.

FWIW Jack, I have never done a long distance hike. I do backpack but have
never posted a trip report. My hikes are for me, period. Like Red I
aspire to a thru. I am a shelter maintainer (Adirondack High Peaks) and
thankfully very few people who frequent my shelter exhibit your belligerent
attitude toward others or I'd quit and tell you to do your own damn
maintenance (probably concluding with 7 letter word that starts with "A").

Get this straight... The AT was not built for the exclusive use of
thru-hikers. Thru-hikers will never be anymore than a tiny fraction of the
people who use the AT and all the others have as much right to be there and
love the AT as thru-hikers do. Being a thru-hiker does *not* make you
anybody special but attacks like the above do make you a JERK! Grow up.
