I read in one account of the building of the trail that a group of trail 
volunteers working with Myron Avery deliberately laid out a route that was 
extremely difficult and unnecessarily went over every obstacle they came to 
just to see what Avery's reaction would be.  Reputedly his response upon 
following their route was "That's great".
