[at-l] at a loss but answering

My first response would be to come to the aid of a woman I though needed help, but that is not an attitude that is always appreciated in todays society.
Many woman feel they can handle themselves and don't appreciate the help (and get indignant about it). I've gotten negative responses holding doors for women (I can do it myself), or helping someone (I can take care of myself), but the majority of the time the response is positive, so I keep on doing it.

As a solo hiking female, I'm interested in hearing from all hikers, but especially the gentlemen, their thoughts on the matter. Is there an awareness of the female's inherent sense of vulnerability (this is
ancient conditioning, beyond the biological vulnerability, that doesn't go away with just the veneer of a few decades of consciousness raising).
This sense of vulnerability doesn't stop me from hiking, or hasn't yet.
But my senses are acute. I thought Carol had good advice.

I am not trying to come in from a "one-down" position, please let me make that clear. I'm just trying to state the reality for me and other females as I see it. No interest in starting a gender war, not at all.
In fact, quite the opposite.

With that in mind, I would love to hear your thoughts...
Best,
