[at-l] Backpacks, the good, the bad, the useless...?

I have used my Osprey Helix for about 10 years. It hardly shows any wear.
It fits very well and at the end of even the longest day, I may be very
tired but I don't have pressure point type sore places. It does have one
big draw back, that puppy weighs 6 pounds, SIX!!!! With my average winter
time pack weight being about 35 pounds, it is one small step of mankind
to conclude that I wish I had a lighter pack.

I will say one thing. I think I will be able to use that Osprey for years
to come without replacing it due to material failure. Never the less,
with my first small successes at making my own gear, I planning to make
my own ruck sack type pack using my thermorest as a back pad. I hope to
achieve the same capacity and reasonable comfort with a 20 pound load,
including 1.5 pounds being the ruck sack its own self.
Hopeful..............who dream big.
