Acetazolamide has no role in treatment of HAPE; ** dexamethasone **should be 
used only in cases of concurrent HACE. Limited early studies with furosemide 
suggest that it may be useful with acute HACE but not prophylactically. 
Furosemide should be used with caution, if at all, as many patients are 
intravascularly depleted. Most authors discourage use of furosemide in 
treating HAPE.
