The Trailplace book has never been availble for download or for free.
The Appalachian Trail Thru Hiker's Companion, published by the Appalachian
Long Distance Hikers Association (ALDHA) and available through the
Appalachian Trail Conference (ATC), is online in a free downloadable version.
It's at http://www.aldha.org.
Trailplace and the so-called "Center for AT Studies" are run by one person.
The non-profit ALDHA has been around since the early 80s, with membership
open to all. The yearly ALDHA Gatherings are a highlight of the year for
those who love the AT and other longdistance trails. The ATC
(www.appalachiantrail .org) is a volunteer based non-profit group began in
1925.
Have a great hike!
